Hey guyyyss it's the last blog!!! I'm kind of sad, because I actually really enjoyed this "assignment". It was different than a boring old book report and it was a lot looser in terms of what we were allowed to do with our writing. It was nice :) ...I'm really happy that this was a way to reach out to you guys in a new way, and I loved hearing all the ingenious ideas and opinions. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and respond to my nonsensical posts :)) I hope this last post will be one worthy of being the last!
Anyways, a quote I thought was especially fitting for this week was this:
"The concerns. A loss of focus. Too rapid an expansion in international. Too many acquisitions of regulated businesses. Worries about the balance sheet and liquidity. Too many diverse activities in individual business unit..." (Conspiracy of Fools)
The quote describes the different issues that needed immediate attention in Enron, to keep the company functioning and together, but when I read it, I thought more of life. In high school, there are soooo many things that need our attention. There's going to school everyday, which is about 6 hours out of your total 16 spent awake, sports (lots of practice time), clubs (lots of volunteer time), and hobbies (everything else like artsy stuff, listening to music, watching movies, etc.). Then after all your hard work at school/sports/clubs/hobbies/etc., then you come home and start your hours of homework. And then you have to find time to eat, shower, get ready for tomorrow, help out with chores at home, spend time with family, and stay connected with friends. It's a lot. And that's just if you do everything to the minimum. You're also expected to be good at stuff, because it's "too easy" to just complete it. So then you've gotta go back and study for good grades, practice for athleticism, make a good impression extra to become a club cabinet member, and everything else. Then when do you sleep? Technically, teens are supposed to get an ideal of 10 hours of sleep a night...Yikes LOL. I know I get more sleep than most of you guys, and I've only gotten 5 hours a night this week. There's more than plenty for all of us to do, everyday of every week. And like Enron, if things get out of balance, then stuff starts to fall apart. Grades go down, you're too tired to stay awake through the day, you don't have enough time to spend with friends and family. But I wanted to point out, that for this year, all of you guys have done amazing keeping everything together (more or less :p) throughout the whole year. A full 10 months of school! So as the main idea of my last post, I'd like to say good job!! Congratz!! And we're gonna be juniors!!
